This week's Volunteero of the week is Kevin! Kevin is one of our most active users for Age UK Northampton. Kevin really has his hands full. As well as befriending for Age UK he volunteers for various other organisations in the Northampton area. He volunteers for Read Easy Northampton, an organisation that enables adults to learn to read, as well as tour guiding at the Charles Rennie Mackintosh house in Northampton. Kevin is a huge cricket fan and has supported the Northampton Steelbacks since he was 10 years old. Even here he puts his generosity to work and commentates for Northants Association for the blind
“I wanted to give something back and use the skills I have”.
When the opportunity arises, we love to find out any memorable experiences our volunteers have encountered whilst volunteering. For Kevin, the most memorable and rewarding experiences for him is the feeling he gets when helping to organise charitable events, knowing he is raising money for and providing support for those charities that he has devoted his time to.
“I have been involved with other charities and I think when you help organise an event that raises money, you know you are helping the charity to provide support to those it’s helping”.
Kevin is more than keen to continue his volunteering journey for the foreseeable with no plans to put a halt to his extensive volunteer activity - “I really want to continue to be successful with my current volunteering opportunities and hopefully continue to be of use”.

We have close personal ties with Kevin’s favourite cricket team, Northampton Steelbacks and have been able to secure him a signed shirt and some tickets to an upcoming game. Given the type of giving gentleman he is, Kevin asked if he could raffle the shirt to raise money for charity. What a guy!
