Role-specific onboarding journeys
Built-in e-learning and quizzes
Background, ID and reference checks

01
An onboarding journey can start manually, or automatically when a form is submitted, such as a new volunteer application. Volunteers can also be enrolled in a journey automatically based on the opportunity or role they applied for, so everyone applying to drive deliveries starts the driver journey without anyone sorting applications by hand.
Run as many journeys as you need. Volunteero routes each applicant to the right one based on the form they used, a specific answer within it, or the role they applied for. For example, a sensitive role can have a fuller journey with more checks, while a lighter role has a shorter one.

02
Each journey is made up of as many stages as you need:
Forms: collect more information or have volunteers sign agreements
Bookings: interviews, inductions or orientation sessions, through integrations with Microsoft Bookings and Google Calendar, among many others
E-learning: modules built from rich text, documents and video, with optional quizzes and pass marks
Background checks: in England and Wales, automated DBS checks through our native integration with Verifile, with the result returned for review
ID checks: automated ID verification through our integration with Yoti
References: automated reference requests and follow-ups
Stages can complete automatically once the volunteer has done what’s needed, or require staff sign-off. For example, a background check stage can need sign-off only when a check doesn’t come back clear.
03
Create courses inside Volunteero with modules of rich text, documents and videos. Each module can end with a custom quiz and a pass mark. Volunteers complete training in the app in their own time, and finishing a course can complete a journey stage.

04
See every volunteer going through onboarding in one place: which journey they’re on, which stage they’ve reached and how long they’ve been there. Filter for anyone who has been at a stage for too long, so staff can step in and help before a good applicant drifts away.
Staff permissions can be segregated so the relevant teams monitor the relevant applicants. With role-based access and group restrictions, a regional team or service lead sees the applicants they’re responsible for, without everyone seeing everything.
All activity is tracked down to the second, from the moment an application arrives to final sign-off. Use this audit trail to find the drop-off points in your journeys, fix what’s slowing people down and turn more applicants into active volunteers.
Also included
Each stage can award a qualification, and completing a journey can add the volunteer to a group. Volunteers get the access they need the moment they’re ready, within your compliance framework, without staff updating records by hand.
Onboarding journeys start automatically from a form submission or the role a volunteer applied for. They guide volunteers through forms, bookings, e-learning, background checks (DBS checks in England and Wales, through our Verifile integration), ID checks and references. Each stage can complete itself or need staff sign-off.
