Following the success of our Lunch & Learn on Volunteering and the Law, we’re excited to be hosting a follow-up session looking at volunteering through a trustee and governance lens.

From 1 September 2026, the supervision exemption for people carrying out certain activities with children is being removed. This means that being supervised by another adult will no longer automatically prevent a role from being considered regulated activity with children.

Drawing on over a decade of leadership experience across the voluntary sector, including senior roles at British Red Cross, Oxfam and St John Ambulance, Elena will share a practical and systematic approach to creating the conditions in which flexible volunteering can succeed at scale.

In this session, Gwen James will explore the key legal considerations that come with managing volunteers, from understanding the difference between a volunteer and an employee, to what should (and shouldn’t) be in a volunteer agreement.

Before you put out the call for new volunteers, have you really laid the groundwork? Join us for a lively Lunch & Learn where Nicole R. Smith will be challenging us to pause and reflect: When was the last time you updated (or even read) your policies and procedures? What does your onboarding journey actually look like—from a volunteer’s perspective? How are you really communicating with staff and volunteers? We’ll dig into these big questions together.

Volunteering is changing. Fewer people can commit long-term, but many still want to help in ways that fit their lives. At Little Village, we set out to see if one-off volunteering could work - both practically for our services and meaningfully for volunteers

Did you know that charities can access $10,000 a month in free Google Ads through the Google Ad Grant? But many organisations struggle to use it effectively, or don’t use it at all!

In this session, Charlotte will share her personal experience of how she has used skills in leadership and influencing to create support for volunteering. With a broad range of both operational and strategic experience, Charlotte has led on volunteer strategy development and implementation, set up centralised volunteering departments, improved volunteer journey and experience, and developed training for those who manage and support volunteers.

This session is designed to help you grow your volunteer programme by engaging and empowering volunteer fundraisers. Richard Scott and Katie Grinter from Marie Curie will share practical tips, success stories, and actionable ideas to build stronger fundraising teams with your volunteers. Don’t miss this chance to learn how volunteers can become your fundraising champions!
